July 16: Pen16 Club

Pen16 Drawing Club conducts its 3rd meeting – activities this week include the monthly Reading of the Minutes, the dreaded 15-second “LIGHTNING ROUND” where 3 coherent, elegant drawings must be completed in 15 seconds time, and an anatomical study of the differences between alligators, crocodiles, and caimans.

8-10pm, standard Philadelphia time.

Pens and paints, not pencils.
July 16: Philosophical Research Group

The first meeting of the Philosophical Research Group will gather at 10:00 PM, at the Institute. All curious parties are invited.

Bring pen and paper.
July 15: Deutschunterricht

The German discussion group continues to meet Sundays at 6pm. This week: a translation exercise, Thomas Mann’s “Der Zauberberg” – which is exactly a single German compound word, hyphenated over 1000 pages.

July 15: A.P. Soundtracks - Iron Monkey

Awesome Party Presents:
Soundtracks.

The A.P. Acoustic Perceptions Research group proudly presents their live original soundtrack to Yuen Woo-Ping’s “IRON MONKEY”, a story of the childhood of Chinese warrior Wong Fei Hung.

Bring popcorn.
July 12: The Kim Jung Il Commission

This commission will investigate life and society in contemporary North Korea, addressing all the philosophical and sociological issues raised by Korean totalitarianism, with its uniquely perverse blend of Orwellian control and oppression.

This first meeting is to find out who is interested in participating in the group. Results of our research will eventually be publicly presented at the Institute.

July 10: Spanish Language Group

The Spanish Language Group will be meeting again this week at 8:00 PM. In addition to Spanish conversation, there will also be an introduction to verb conjugation for beginners.

The A.P. Acoustic Perceptions Research division will be presenting a live sound collage, this week visually accompanied by Jiri Barta’s “Krysar”(1985), an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Pied Piper of Hamelin.

July 08: German Discussion Group

At 6:00, the German Discussion Group conducts its second meeting. The focus this week will be on poetry and its role in German conversation.

July 03: Encuentro Cuencano

Habrá sangria, yapingachos, y por supuesto conversaciones estrictamente en español (aunque todos son bienvenidos).

Cuencan Encounter, the first meeting of the Spanish Language Group. Sangria and delicacies will be served; however, no English will be spoken.

July 01: Awesome Party Presents - Soundtracks

Sundays in July, Awesome Party’s Acoustic Perceptions Research division will be presenting a live sound collage with fixed visual accompaniment. This week, a soundtrack for Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 silhouette masterpiece “Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed” (The Adventures of Prince Achmed). Performed in conjunction with the PIFAS Leibniz Center German Society.

Begins at sundown or approximately 9pm.
