For the fifth installation at Gallery Under the Stairs, Sanwaree Sethi assembled this scene from a Russian fairytale out of clay, photographs, and discarded snack boxes craftily hidden under felt. Inspired by John Lurie's painting "Bear Surprise," which has become a modern icon of post-soviet cultural illiteracy, Sethi has expanded upon the ungainliness of the badly timed bear to bring him and his doppelganger into the bedrooms of two unassuming teens swept up in their fantasies.
